This Code of Conduct is a collection of some expected behaviors and restrictions that must be followed by all candidates standing in the elections. Violation of these norms will attract punitive actions from the election officers ranging from cancellation of candidature to prohibition from participating in future elections.
- No candidate shall indulge in any activity which may aggravate or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities - religious, linguistic, etc.
- Criticism of other candidates, when made, shall be confined to their policies and programs. Candidates shall refrain from criticism of all aspects of private life, not connected with public activities. Criticism of other candidates based on unverified allegations or distortion must be avoided.
- There shall be no appeal to caste, regional and communal feelings for securing votes. Lecture theaters, OAT or any other place on the college campus shall not be used as a forum for election propaganda. No rallies and public meetings shall be held. A proper platform for putting a candidate's uniqueness will be provided by the election commission.
- All candidates must scrupulously avoid all activities which are “corrupt practices”, such as bribing of voters, intimidation of voters, impersonation of voters. Candidates are asked not to arrange any parties or treats as long as the code of conduct is in effect.
- The right of every individual for peaceful and undisturbed personal-life shall be respected, however much the candidates may resent that individual's opinions or activities.
- No candidate shall permit himself/herself or his/her supporters to make use of any college building, compound wall etc., for suspending banners, pasting notices, writing slogans etc.
- Candidates shall ensure that their supporters do not indulge in any kind of fights with the other candidates and their supporters.
- Use of electronic mail/broadcasts for election propaganda is strictly prohibited. Use of any form of technology to cross question the voter regarding their preference of voting and indulging in any kind of vote barter is strictly prohibited.
- No student activity, event, announcement, monetary distribution, thanksgiving ceremony or organized gathering of any nature shall be scheduled, conducted, or publicly notified while the Code of Conduct is in effect. Exceptions may be granted only in extraordinary circumstances, subject to prior approval of the Election Commission.
- No person shall directly or indirectly compel, coerce, or exert undue pressure upon any student to file nomination, withdraw candidature, or refrain from filing nomination for any position against their free will.
- Election or your candidature cannot be given as an excuse to miss classes, lectures or labs.
- No candidate or voter shall indulge in any official campaigning during the 24 hours prior to the commencement of polling.
Note: EC can enforce the code of conduct (partially or as a whole) any time near the commencement of the election, with Dean (Students)’s approval. It should be communicated to the student community via official channels. Action against violation of code of conduct during partial enforcement of code of conduct is at the discretion of EC.
